About GoPC

Our mission

To provide a personal "virtual desktop computer" for everyone wherever there is broadband internet.

Our vision

We host and deploy Open Source Software (OSS) applications pre-configured and ready for anyone to run within two minutes.

Our value is to rapidly provide a complete, managed, and supported computing solution and remove the burden of software and systems management for our GoPC users. Our packaged solution reaches globally to individuals with different societal needs and across every continent.

Our pedigree

GoPC grew from ten years of data centre technology development and we delivered cloud computing solutions to business clients as GoPC in 2005. We pioneered technology to help our clients constrain the run-away costs and complexity of IT services deployed at the traditional desktop.

Today, GoPC is a combined business and technology framework utilising the best-of-breed Open Source desktop and web application technologies. The entire PC desktop, storage and large suite of full featured desktop applications are pre-packaged and ready for anyone to sign-up and start using within a few minutes.

Virtual desktop

GoPC is a 'virtual' desktop computer which is changing the way people think about their PC. It appears to work exactly like a normal PC but is actually running online and simply appears to run on the computer being used to access it. People are no longer tied to any one computer and no longer need to worry about upgrades or updates. Everything is managed for them, email and files are virus free and it's accessible wherever there is a computer with a broadband internet connection. GoPC supports the common file formats, including Microsoft Office, and completely removes the need to install software and store data on a local machine.

An Open Source future

GoPC is based primarily on Open Source Software (OSS).

OSS differs from proprietary software because the source code is made freely available and supported by an open forum of developers and contributors. OpenOffice.org is an example of an OSS application which is compatible and almost identical in function to Microsoft Office; a proprietary product with closed-source code.

OSS often promotes and adopts open standards. This means that your data are not locked in to a proprietary file format if you want to use other software. For example, OpenOffice.org fully supports the ISO standard for office file formats.

The framework and Open Source technology ensures GoPC continues to be relevant, popular, and retains a position at the leading edge of many emerging technologies.
